We began with the idea to create a unique product made out of an exotic flower that is found in natural tropical regions worldwide. We wanted Sorrel Cosmetics to have some influences that originate from our Mexican culture. In Mexico, the sorrel flower is known as flor de Jamaica (aka Red Roselle/Hibiscus in the United States) and it is well known for its many health benefits.
- What is a Sorrel Flower? Where does it come from?
Sorrel is a beautiful red flower known in many cultures for its medicinal properties and its unique shape. Many people are familiar with the hibiscus plant (Hibiscus Sabdariffa). It originated in North Africa and Southeast Asia but now grows in many tropical and subtropical climates. In many cultures, especially the Mexican and Caribbean lifestyles it is known to be used as a delicious herbal tea. For centuries it has been used in hollistic/ayurvedic medicine as an aid to cure hair, skin, and digestive dilemmas. This flower contains compounds that are made up of: Vitamins A & C, Phosphorous, Riboflavin & Calcium, Amino Acids, Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA). This combination speeds up cell rejuvenation, hair strengthening and hair loss. It's safe for color-treated hair.
